Waterproofing stone walls and decorative stone: protect the external walls of your house

Stone, natural or artificial, is a structural element characteristic of Greek architecture, and its use allows for many house styles, of both traditional and modern aesthetic.

Besides the aesthetic result, though, using stone can offer multiple benefits, since it protects the external walls of the house, offering additional insulation.

Just like any kind of external coating, the stone will also have to withstand the weather, and especially moisture. Maintaining and protecting natural and artificial stones doesn’t need to be a costly endeavour. Waterproofing stone can be done through a simple process that can be undertaken even by yourself, relieving you from unnecessary and painful expenses.

To waterproof stone, but to also give the surface multiple advantages, you apply the silicone waterproofing PS-20 from ISOMAT, following the simple steps outlined below:

1st Step: Preparing the base layer

We clean the surface from dust, etc., and we fill any gaps in the joints with the polymer-modified cementitious repair mortar DUROCRET.

We protect neighbouring surfaces like windows, painted surfaces, and other materials that can be damaged from solvents, like polystyrene, elastomeric joint sealant, etc.

2nd Step: Applying the stone waterproofing material

PS-20 is applied with a brush or a paint roller, or is sprayed on the dry surface, in two coats. The second coat follows after the first is completely dry.

PS-20 penetrates into the pores of the material and waterproofs it without changing its appearance.

It also offers the following advantages to the surface:

  •  Incredibly high water repellency.
  •  Long-term protection.
  •  Water vapor permeability, which allows the structural materials to breathe.

Additionally:

  •  It doesn’t create a membrane on the surfaces where it’s applied, so it doesn’t change their appearance.
  •  It removes salt efflorescence from the surfaces where it’s applied, as well as the effects of frost and dirty, because it blocks the absorption of rainwater and contaminants.
  •  It acts fast after its application.

Tip

  •  Alternatively, for the same application, we can use the nano-impregnation material NANOPRO-C which protects porous surfaces.
